Here comes Generation Alpha

This workshop takes a critical look at the characteristics of the emergent teens of Generation Alpha. Which of these do we, as language teachers, believe need encouragement? And how might we achieve this? And what about the less desirable characteristics? What impact do these have on our language classrooms?

• Understand the meaning of Generation Alpha and the differences to Generation Z
• Highlight the importance of adapting our methodology to these students
• Understand the benefits for the students – and teachers – of this motivating approach

• Critical examination of typical characteristics of students of this target age
• Examine which of these characteristics can be useful in learning language
• Exploiting the positive characteristics
• Examining which characteristics of generation Alpha students are less positive and what we might do to counter them
• Examples of practical activities for teaching this new generation of students
